  4. STROKE WARNING SIGNS

    A stroke requires immediate medical attention. Every second counts in saving the brain.

    Strokes are  the 3rd leading cause of death. The ratio of men to women dying from stroke is 40% to 60%.

    The following warning signs must be known by everyone. Pass them on to others. It can save a life.

    • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg.
    • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
    • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
    • Sudden trouble walking , dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
    • Sudden severe headache with no known cause.

  5. SIGNS OF A HEART ATTACK.

    What happens when your heart is not healthy?

    Fact: 36% of the population in 2006 had Cardio Vascular Disease which eventually leads to a heart attack or stroke. The percentages have been increasing every year since then.

    The signs of a heart attack happening are:

    *Chest Discomfort - Located in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes.  It may go away and come back. Can feel like an uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.

    *Discomfort in other areas of the upper body – pain or discomfort in one or both arms, back, neck, jaw or stomach

    *Shortness of breath. Will come along with chest discomfort but it can occur without chest discomfort.

    *Other signs such as breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness

    Some Heart Attacks are sudden and intense, but most start slowly, with mild pain and discomfort.

    What to do:    Call 911 immediately for EMT. Get to the hospital without fail. If  a paramedic is not available, have  someone drive you to the hospital.

  11. Not worried about a heart attack? Think again
